The San Blas Island Tours are occupied and owned by the indigenous Kuna Yala tribe, so visiting them feels like taking a step back in time. The islands are a beautiful, natural oasis but lack modern amenities and the pace of life is much slower than that of most western countries. You’ll stay in basic beach huts or bunk accommodation and most places don’t even have electricity.
A trip to San Blas is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and if you can afford it, I highly recommend it! It’s one of my favourite travel experiences of all time. However, it is pretty pricey and it’s important to do your research before booking.
San Blas Island Tours: Your Gateway to Tropical Bliss
You can either stay on a speedboat or sailboat through the San Blas Islands. The sailing option is a much more authentic experience but it can be quite rough on the ocean so not for everyone!
It’s best to visit during the dry season between January and April. It’s quieter and the weather is usually beautiful. But it is still possible to enjoy your trip during the wet season, although it may be a little more rainy.
Definitely make sure you pack a rain jacket. And bring lots of sunscreen! Also, you should bring a few snacks to tide you over in between group meals. Trash has become a big problem on the islands so it’s good to try and minimise the amount of plastic you bring in. It’s also a good idea to bring some seasickness medication.
